Indian woman delivers on US train

New York, Jan 17 (ANI): An Indian-origin woman in the US has given birth to her first child on a commuter train to New York.

Indian couple Rabita Sarkar and Aditya Saurabh, took the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) train from their home in Harrison, New Jersey.

By the time their train rumbled into the Manhattan Street station, they were a new family, complete with a baby boy, the New York Post reports.
Sarkar, 31, who wasn't expecting to deliver for another two weeks, was having what she thought were false labor pains, when she and her husband decided to play it safe and check in with her doctor.

The wary couple had heard all the stories about babies being born in cars, so didn't want to risk getting stuck in traffic.

"We thought we could avoid traffic and take the train in the city," Sarkar said.
The couple, both software engineers, boarded the train at 9:49 a.m. local time at Journal Square station in Jersey City.

Before the train made its second stop at the Newport station, the baby was ready to enter the world. (ANI)
