Film is not just displaying the same kind of heroism, same kind of dances and repeating same old dialogues. Oh god gives us a break… There are no hard and fast rules for making a film. And only small films can break free from this set formula… but is it fair to call them as small films? Whichever film shows something new to Telugu audience is a big film and Venkatadri Express is one such film. It may not be great film, but in between all these thrash who claim to be greatest films ever made, this is definitely a great film. What does Venkatadri Express got to offer to you? What can you expect from the film and what makes it click? Read on to know all these and much more.
Now getting into the story: Rama Murthy is a retired master who is highly disciplined human being. He has set rules in the house and everyone has to follow it. One of them is that those who commit 100 mistakes will be thrown out of the house. His younger son Sundeep (Sundeep Kishan) is very close to the count. He is not the type of person who picks up fights and quarrels with everyone, but will not keep quiet if somebody starts it. Right now his count is 99. One more mistake, he will be thrown out of the house.
Meanwhile, his brother (Brahmaji) marriage is fixed and marriage is in Tirupati. Everyone has to travel to Tirupati by Venkatadri Express. Sundeep misses the train, and he is carrying the all important “thali”. Next day early morning is the marriage and if he doesn’t take it on time it will be his 100th mistake. Will he make it or will he be thrown out of the house? How does he catch up with the train? What is story of Prarthana (Rakul Preet Singh) who is travelling on the train? These form the rest of the story.
This is film which is completely based on a clever screenplay and for this debutant director Merlapaka Gandhi has to be appreciated. Though the film stars off on a very slow note, it picks up the speed once the train enters the story. Showing of Sundeep catching the train and then disclosing how he did in small flashbacks has made the film narrative very interesting.
There small and silly yet interesting twists make the film look breezy and enjoyable. The character of Saptagiri and also the ticket collectors bring up some genuine laughs to the film. Heroine has also a good role to go with the story. There is nosongs except for two which are as comic reliefs to the story. Though it is not a remarkable film which will have repeat audience but is a pure time-pass film which is value for your money!
Sundeep Kishan has done his role with lots of ease and comfort. He is good at dance, fights and acting. His voice is a big asset to him. New comer Rakul is also good, but at time she seems to overact. Nagineedu, is like as usual. It looks like we are seeing some of his olden films and there is nothing new in costumes as well as looks. Of only the director could have got Rao Ramesh for this role, he would have done better job. Saptagiri has brought some laughs. Overall this film has less negatives, obviously we will have to forgive some logics in the film.
As told earlier screenplay is the highlight of the film. It was well supported by camera work of experience Chota K Naidu. Maybe because it is the film of his nephew that he seems to have worked hard! Both the songs have been picturised very colourfully. Though there are only two songs, music director Ramana Gogula could exhibit his skills through re-recording.
Overall, Venkatadri Express is a time pass film. With lots of laughs and little thrill audience can enjoy this film!
